"Since completing the fellowship, one of the most wonderful things I've gained is a sense of community.
With a cast of wonderful women, I now have so many beautiful friends all thanks to the Katie Lees Fellowship.
Maddie Diggins, who directed my show, cast me in another show 'Forgotten', that was on earlier this year at Riverside Paramatta. Maddie and I have also got a show programmed for October at Flight Path Theatre.
Other little moments include waiting in an audition room and a fellow auditionee saying 'Oh my god, I saw your show at Flight Path you are hilarious you would be amazing in this play', being asked to audition for an interactive theatre project because they had seen 'Hit Me Baby'; having other directors chat to me about the fellowship in audition rooms, meeting other young women and spreading the word, telling them to apply in 2023 and telling Katie's story.
And most of all, the fellowship came at a time when I needed a win. Having someone say - you're funny and a good person and you reflect Katie's spirit - gave me the confidence to produce my own work and seek out people to work with who also embodied that ethos.
I have plans to remount my show when the right time and opportunity come along. Performing in my own show gave me a confidence that I've been searching for so long as an actor.
This experience really touched all facets of my life - both professional and personal.
A month is a wholly irrational division of time. It has no relation to anything in astronomy or human experience. A month is nothing but just a bad habit. In a quiet private room, a group of billionaires gather to debate time, while two long-suffering political staffers try the impossible, actually get something meaningful done before they get voted out.
The plan? Compromising on their morals and get the ultra-rich to throw their weight and money behind adding a 13th month and tricking them into unwittingly endorsing a more socialist work week, by preying on their desire to play God. All this is in exchange for lifting sanctions on a self-titled fascist politician so the billionaires can do business with him. But everything has a price, and it’s more than a public servant’s salary.
This play is inspired by real events, a real idea, and a real committee that existed...twice! This show imagines a third meeting of a satirical and cynical nightmare on the run-up, or blunder-up, to this project.
